at heart of it

I have a friend whose theological perspectives are likely 90% different than mine. 

She’s a daily devotional, weekly bible study, non-denominational church, literal bible kind of girl.

I’m a pray to the universe, appreciate all religions, life-long liberal denomination, the bible is a metaphor kind of girl.

We could demonize each other. We could write each other off. We could try to “fix” or “save” the other.

Instead, she sent me these to use to highlight my bible while when I start seminary next week. 

She chose to lead with love. To support my passion - even knowing that what I may study and believe may be counter to her interpretation of the same stories and text. 

I’m so grateful for her role modeling. When she could look first to the distance between us, she seeks to close the gap. She honors my curiosity, my desire to be of service to others, the sacrifice I’m willing to make to study and learn. 

She honors God by looking at my heart. 

And that, my friends, is what we all must do to survive in this divisive world.
