i saw the signs

This sign warms my heart and every time I drive by. I find myself lifting a prayer that someone who needs to see it does. And sometimes that is me.
I feel a closeness to the strangers who chose to invest their time and energy into a message like this. I imagine them to be generous, open-hearted and welcoming.
And yet, I know what sign was at that home just a few months before. A political sign that gave rise to my own feelings of resentment and rage.
I didn’t imagine the goodness in its owners. How could someone investing time and energy in that kind of sign be someone I would like?
Thank God for forcing me to examine my own judgmental tendencies. For humbling me so that I could be reminded of the humanity in all of us.
No one is all bad or all good.
No one is a political party.
If we truly believe in the beauty of creation, we must also believe in the diversity and complexity of each beautifully crafted soul.
