small town uprising

Yes, I’ll be at the We Love America Uprising today. I’ve seen some criticism of the event being too organized, too safe, too easy.
I can see that perspective, particularly compared to what our hero civil rights activists suffered.
And, yet, I want to speak for the small town folk. Those whose are surrounded by their neighbor’s Trump/Guns/God flags. Those whose see the chatter in the town Facebook groups threatening to run over the protesters with their trucks. Those surrounded by “biblical” churches telling its members that empathy is evil. We are in the heart of places where the n-word is still said in poker rooms and brown people are only “good” if they make a great taco.
We aren’t in the blue bubble of the city. We’ve raised our kids and forged decades of friendships with people who now vocally support everything that breaks our hearts. Friends who now may think we are evil too.
And today we’ll stand on the streets in our small towns as we hold our signs and they drive by and raise their middle fingers.
