Tattered

This row of houses proudly erected their altars to Trump in 2025.
On my drive through the peaceful countryside, I would never cease to be shocked at the level of idolatry displayed in the flags on their hand-built poles.
They were bright, crisp, and clean. Waving in the wind for all passersby to get the message loud and clear: “D.O.G.E.” and “Trump: Take America Back”.
I imagine these loyals were full of hope, having fully embraced the carefully crafted campaign promises.
Maybe they believed in the coming of the Golden Age. The $2000 checks, soon to arrive as a gift to citizens from the tariffs imposed on our foes. The shiny whitewashing of America that came with the anticipation of cleansing us from the “bad genetics” living in our country. The peace that comes from the “American First” policy of no wars. Eggs, gas, and everything else at prices lower than anyone has ever seen before. Maybe it was proving that all of the pedophiles on the island were from the other party.
What’s true 15 months in?
The alters are an honest reflection of reality.
The cheap promises built on fear, leveraging the worst of our human instincts to tear each other down, to separate from those who are different, to stay in our silos, and to put ourselves first.
A more tattered world.
