I'm Straight, so Why Pride?

I’m straight so why Pride?

For the lost parts of my childhood that suffered trauma because my father took the misery of being closeted out on his family.

For my dad, whose life was certainly shorter than it should have been due to self-medicating from the pain.

For my step-father, who loved my dad wholly and fully for over 30 years but didn’t get to marry him until late in life.

For my grandmother, who was underestimated in her ability to be accepting of their relationship and loved dad’s partner as her own.

For my children so they may feel safe to seek love with whoever they wish, knowing we will welcome their chosen partners with open arms.

For the children of my siblings -and their current and future spouses. I want them to have the beautiful weddings, families and lives we all dream of.

For the pastors who hearts are so hard that the they have lost out on the joy of loving people of all kinds, and for the people who have ended their lives because of of those hard hearts.

For my church community and the ways that their non-traditional families have made our church exponentially more beautiful.

For my colleagues - so they never feel like they have to wait years to talk about their spouse in fear of rejection or job loss.

For me and all of the times I’ve been told that I can’t be a Christian if I believe in these equal rights.
