The Prosperity Gospel Made Us Poor

I think we broke when the TV preacher
Started pleading with us to dial that long-distance number
To pledge our allegiance to their enterprise
In exchange for a promise that isn't theirs to make
The focus shifted from the good news of the gospel
No longer seeking the riches of loving thy neighbor
Instead, giving in to the lure of fortifying our wealth
Building up our own sacred storehouses of money
Our spirits have been impoverished
Starving for affirmation from the preacher on the stage
Yelling about our unworthiness and sins
Only to be redeemed in exchange for our donation
We bankrupted our souls for the promise
Of “seven supernatural blessings” in exchange for a grand
To receive the assignment of a personal angel
From the White spiritual leader speaking in tongues
We break the heart of God with our desires
Placing our hope in collecting riches, material and capital
Barren of the responsiblity to serve and love abundantly
We've been made poorer by the "prosperity gospel"
