We’ve officially been in our new house for one year. There are moments that I still mourn our old country life but there are lots of life-giving moments here too.

1. People in the city love to talk about dogs. I am stopped on nearly every walk by someone doting on my dogs and then wishing me a good day.

2. It's a joy to see how much the holidays are celebrated. Folks here love to decorate their porches for every occasion.

3. I'm beginning to feel part of a community. I've enjoyed gathering in the crowds to watch Friday night concerts, the glass ball rise on New Year's Eve, and the celebration on Juneteenth.

4. I can still find beauty here. I even more deeply appreciate my small flower beds, the trees I pass on walks, or the glimpses of the moon that I see through the houses.

5. It's true. Home is where your people are. The minute this house is full of those that I love, I can't imagine being anywhere else.

So, thank you to Lancaster, our home for now. Glad to be getting to know you.
