I Suppose I'm Going to Hell

I believe in gay marriage
And the human right
To find joy in love
And raise a family
To pass on beautiful traditions
And sit around dinner tables
Sharing stories of their day
I suppose I'm going to hell
I believe in immigration
Even if it means sharing the land
Or interpreting broken English
Providing sanctuary
In our holy sanctuaries
For dreamers, housekeepers, and farmers
Doing the work we avoid
I suppose I'm going to hell
I believe Black Lives Matter
That no matter how you protest
My whiteness gives me an advantage
And someone's blackness
Makes their life riskier than mine
That the skin of Jesus was dark brown
And God is not a white man
I suppose I'm going to hell
I believe in biological diversity
That sex is a symphony
God's art exhibits of
XX, XY, 46XX, 45XO, and 47XXX
No one is a mistake
And the freedom to be
Is the heart of the American dream
I suppose I'm going to hell
I believe in God
A God of many pathways
One that finds its way
Through Buddha, Muhammad, or Shiva
Prophets of various cultures
Rhythms, poetry, and songs
All pointing to the same light
I suppose I'm going to hell
I believe in radical Jesus
Not the narcissist warrior
We've crafted him to be
The one who demands glory and awe
Or songs of worship to him
My Jesus shined the light
On the poor and the leper
I suppose I'm going to hell
