Let Us Love

I’ve started and stopped writing this a million times. During the day. In the middle of the night. Between deep breaths. In moments of rage. Down on my knees in anguish.

The conclusion I’ve reached is that there is absolutely nothing I could say to change the minds of Trump supporters at this point. They are a decade into knowing exactly who he is.

Instead - for my children and their children, for my family and friends now preparing for sanctioned discrimination, and for the corners of the world that I can impact - I make this vow:

1. As a leader in my workplace, I will continue to work to ensure that the people who work for me represent the diversity of community we serve. I will ensure that our health equity scholarship remains in place enabling underserved students to become coaches to provide deep, empathic connections to clients who are discriminated against and overlooked.

2. I will only attend a church that overtly seeks to welcome and accept all as evidenced by providing refuge for the refugee, loving families of all kinds (without exception!) and with a mission to repent and reconcile for the sins of hate and prejudice. I will never focus on securing personal salvation, power or the idolatry of worshiping the USA.

3. I will faithfully support Community Refugee and Immigration Services (crisohio.app.neoncrm.com/forms/donate-to-cris) whose funding is now threatened while they try to support legal refugees who are already here.

4. I will offer free well-being coaching to anyone who is experiencing distress as a result of the impact of the executive orders that eliminate your job, the telling of your history, or attempt to eliminate your sense of self.

Dear God of Love, there is so much more I’d like to be able to do. May I focus on what I can do, and do with integrity, to bring your kin-dom to earth.
