Praying to satan

ree

After the sit-in for racial justice at church last night, Theo and I were still talking to our friends when a woman approached and stared at my “Black Lives Matter” sign.

After we said hello, she proceeded to tell us we were communists, that black children in the South are taught to hate white people in the school curriculum, and that we were just as bad as the KKK.

My standard response to being yelled at in these situations is “I’ll pray for you” to which she responded, “Don’t bother, you’ll be praying to Satan.”

This level of misinformation and hate is more confirmation that members of this community who are black experience most certainly racism here.

If our sitting silently on a church lawn holding a sign that says “Black lives matter” infuriates people so much that they throw cigarette butts at us, cuss at us, rev their engines and give us the middle finger in broad daylight, imagine how that hatred bleeds into how black people are seen and treated.
